I have a place down in Ft Myers. Yes we got hit with the worst hurricane in years but we got through it. The storm insurance did go through the roof BUT if you don't have a mortgage you don't need the insurance. I only carry flood and fire and its under 2k a year. The beach does not smell like fish and is being rebuilt daily. Great winter place to live. The downfall is the six months of 100 plus heat.

Completely disagree. I’m in fort myers, home owners is 2300 annual and I don’t need flood insurance where I am.

I have a slightly different perspective. I’m in Sarasota. 1700 sq ft home, flood insurance not necessary - $4000 a year home insurance policy. Was $1600 four years ago. We have a mortgage, otherwise we’d be doing the same: very low coverages.

We are having issues with water quality since millions of gallons of raw sewage went into our waterways when TS Debby passed by and one of its outer bands dumped rain 16 inches of rain on us in 24 hours.

Wife and I both in our 50s and drive 5 and 10 year old economy cars. No tickets, accidents, etc in many years - $1800 per year.

Supermarket and restaurants some of highest prices in the lower 48. The weather and winter time is the trade off we make. I just passed 20 years here so I guess that says it all.
