5-0 FAT CATS
It’s the time of the season in which undefeated teams start fighting
like cats and dogs while entertaining ideas of reaching the College
Football Playoffs – especially those squads that have managed to
open the season with 5 consecutive wins in their first 5 games.
Forewarned is forearmed, however, when it comes to ‘playing on’
these 5-0 clubs as Game Six is often times a major chuckhole on the
path to the playoffs for these favorites. Since 1980, teams who find themselves favored in
these games are just 163-209-7 ATS, or a 43.8% ATS proposition.
Better yet, bring them in off a double-digit ATS win and
they dip to 52-80-3 ATS. This week Coastal Carolina,
Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky and Michigan dressing up as Fat Cat
favorites off big fat spread wins.
On the flip side, these 5-0 teams tend to fatten up as dogs, going
54-35-1 ATS overall. This week Penn State and UTSA
dog up. When they arrive off a double-digit win, they
improve to 35-17 ATS. The Nittany Lions fit the bill this week.
And for what it’s worth, when a 5-0 Fat Cat favorite is laying points
into a 5-0 Fat Cat dog – as Iowa will be doing this week against
Penn State – the Fat Cat favorite is 6-14 ATS.
