I think I shared this some years back. But back in the 90's I had been on a very nice run. Then I had one of those dreaded weekends where absolutely nothing goes right. If it could go wrong, it did. We've all been there. Sucks. You feel like you control the outcome by whatever you play. Well it came down to sunday night football or Monday night. I had gone from having a nice roll to a deep, deep hole. Ugly place to be. I was not crazy about either game. In the end I decided I liked the sunday night game better. Barely, lol. I called my bookie and gave him my number and did a pretty stupid thing. I put it all on the sunday night game. I was going to either get even or buried and time to get into the 401 K. Just stupid but just being honest. I took the Bills at home plus the points against the Patriots. I honestly cannot recall the number. But with about a minute and a half left in the game I looked like a dead man walking. The Bills needed a TD to back door for me. But they were hopelessly out of the game and it looked beyond bleak. My wife was watching with me and had no idea the spot I was in. I put up a brave front. She had no clue. Well on a 3rd and long from well into their own territory Jim Kelly hit Andre Reed with a pass by the sideline. Ty Law closed in on Reed and all he had to do was push him out of bounds and that was pretty much that. God bless Reed but he was still playing hard. He made a nice move and side stepped Law and then streaked down the sideline. He was tip toeing down the line for a bit and almost stepped out of bounds, inches. Literally. But he went into the end zone and I was rescued with a miracle back door score. I honestly sprang out of my chair and charged into the yard and did a few flips. My wife at that point realized this was not just another game. I don't generally, even at that younger time, get too emotional over games. But it was a ton of dough on the line for me. I didn't feel like I'd dodged a bullet, more like a scud missle. Thankfully I learned from my poor money management and never let myself get into that position again. Most all sports bettors have been there at some point in their lives. Some learn, some never do. But if being honest about it, most everyone has walked that dreaded path and had those weekends from hell.
That was mine guys. And I assure you I will never, ever forget it.
