I have a 150 page illustrated history from 1948 called "The Dodgers." It's mostly a book of fabulous black and white photos with lengthy captions. Just to demonstrate that things aren't really less civil today... toward the back of the book...there's a photo of a dead guy, arms splayed, on a barroom floor. The caption beneath the picture reads:
"The Dodgers had lost to the Giants and that night Robert Joyce a rabid fan, was being kidded mildly at a bar when he suddenly left in a rage, went home, came back with a gun, and shot Frank Krug through the head, killing him instantly. King had been Joyce's friend."
