For what it’s worth, yesterday was not another good day and I have no one to blame but myself. I blew it! I ended up using five teams on 1st 5 and full game MLs, the Phils, the Yankees, the Red Sox , the Dodgers, and the Astros, in a series of two-team ML parlays. That’s a total of 10 sides and fortunately six of them cashed. Unfortunately, three of them, the Dodgers 1st 5 and full game and the Yankees 1st 5, lost. One, the Phils 1st 5, pushed. I also had a couple of side bets that ended up being postponed.
The Yanks 1st 5 loss and the Phils 1st 5 push, were just bad luck. The Yanks had the tying run on 3rd with just 1 out in the bottom of the 5th, but C Kyle HiHigashioka got thrown out at home trying to score on a flyball. Can’t really blame the guy. After all, it was his 2-run double that had made it 3-2 earlier in the inning. As for the Phils 1st 5 , that game stayed scoreless util the 5th when the Phils took a 2-1 lead one inning too late.
My real bitch is with me for betting on the Dodgers. My first inclination was to pass on this game. After all, while Walker Buehler is a very good pitcher, German Marquez isn’t exactly chopped liver, and he’s pitched really well at Coors. The fact that the game was being played at Coors was another reason. It’s a venue where even really good pitchers tend to struggle. It’s also a venue where the Rockies hit really well. There were a lot of good reason to pass on this one and that was my initial inclination. However, I have such a high opinion of Walker Buehler that I am probably overrating him and in so doing I ignored my gut and paid the price.. Bueller has pitched really well this season, but he hasn’t gotten the results. I chalked that up to the Dodger just not hitting for him. Well that was not the case last night. Buehler absolutely sucked. The Dodgers finally broke through against Marquez and staked him to a 3-0 lead in the 4th. In my mind, I had a sure-fire winner, at least on the 1st 5. To my horror, Buehler turned around and imploded in the bottom of the inning, giving up 5 runs. He surrendered a leadoff HR, followed by four straight singles, before he even got an out. Then, after getting two outs, he gives up a bases load double to the opposing pitcher, Marquez ending his night. The Dodgers scored 2 in the top of the 5th to tie it at 5-5. It could/should have been more but Justin Truner hit into a bases load double play, but a least I had a push, or so I thought. Then, the Rockies added a run in the bottom of the 5th and the rout was on.
I ended up down about 9 units. Thank God I added the Astros at the last minute.
Let’s move on to today. Unfortunately, I have no time for write-ups, so all you get is a picks and a line or two explaining why. Sorry, but that’s life.
Here’s the first one.
STL @ MIL: Adam Wainwright v Adrain Houser
This is simple on team is trying to secure a playoff spot and the other’s already in and doesn’t really give a shit. One pitcher is having great season and one isn’t.
Pick – STI 1st 5 (-103 for 2 units) and full game ML (+108)
