Last night’s Game One of this Athletics / Yankees series ended up going OVER the Total thanks to some late-inning theatrics from the hosts. New York erupted for 6 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to come away with a 9-5 victory. Well be switching gears and Going LOW in Tuesday’s Game Two….AS LONG as Oakland stud pitcher Frankie Montas is on the mound. He’s as good as advertised… and just about EVERY start he makes these days is basically a ’showcase’ for every MLB contender that’s looking for a potential great pitcher in a trade. Montas has been electric for the A’s this year, with an ERA of only 3.21 and an overall record of 4-10 O/U. What UNDER bettors should LOVE about Montas is that his Oakland teammates almost NEVER give him sold run support on offense. In fact, in his 14 starts… the A’s are averaging only 2.8 runs per game on offense. Not only that, but tonight is the PERFECT time to ‘Go Low’…as Montas is off his BEST start of the season. He just pitched 8 innings of shutout ball (and allowed only TWO hits!) against the Mariners five days ago in a 2-1 loss. Current streaks: 3-10-1 O/U last 14 starts… 1-5-1 O/U last 7 starts (and a 2.65 ERA). And in his career vs the Yankees, Montas has yet to allow an earned run. His counterpart will be JP Sears. The Yankee left-hander will be recalled from Triple A Scranton / Wilkes Barre for his fourth appearance of the season… and his 2nd start. In his first start, Sears allowed just 3 hits over 5 innings in an eventual 2-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles on May 25th. There’s not much to go on here, but we DO note that Sears has had a great ERA of just 1.83 in 10 appearances in Triple A this year (8 actual starts). And this will be his first ever look at the Athletics. His small size has been small, but significant nevertheless. His average exit velocity is only 84.3 MPH… and he has a hard-hit rate of 25 percent. As a result, his expected opposition’s batting average sits at just .183.
Assisting us in tonight’s play could very well be the ‘Man in Blue’. Scheduled to work behind the dish in tonight’s Game Two of this Yankees / Athletics series will be STU SCHEURWATER. He comes in as the best UNDER Umpire on the Tuesday MLB Ticket. The full-season record for Scheurwater is 4-8 O/U in 12 games (67% UNDERS) with an average of only 7.5 combined runs per game. We’re super confident in our call since this is an AL game. In his National League games this year, Scheurwater has gone a middle-of-the-road 2-3 O/U with an average of 9.8 combined runs per game. BUT in his AMERICAN LEAGUE games, he’s gone 2-6 O/U with a very LOW average of only 5.9 combined runs per game. He’s also on a current streak of 1-5 O/U in his last six games dating back to late May (7.3 rpg). Scheurwater has already worked THREE Royal or Yankee games in this current 2022 season. Result? A PERFECT 0-3 O/U record… with an average of just 4.7 runs for game!
