When it comes to the Monday pitching matchups in Major League Baseball, it doesn’t get more one-sided than Game One of the American League series between the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals. And we wont have to lay -150 or higher like we would if we played some of the other big favorites on Monday (like Dodgers, Yankees, Blue Jays, or Mariners). On can easily argue that the RANGERS with their ACE on the mound probably have the best value of any favorite on the Monday schedule. And we’ll be fading a guy with the 2nd WORST ERA of any starter going tonight.
Despite the fact that the Texas Rangers are still a sub-.500 team on the season, its pretty surprising see that their ace comes in with 10-4 record in his 15 team starts. That would be crafty left-hander Martin Perez. And not only that, but any time we see an American League starting pitcher with an ERA of UNDER 2.00, we’re gonna seriously consider betting on him. That’s the case for Perez, who comes in at 1.96 for the season. And he’s actually done better on the ROAD (PERFECT 6-0 / ERA of 1.76) than he has at HOME this year (4-4 / 2.14). Current STREAKS for Perez include 9-1 in his last ten starts since early May… and a perfect 3-0 in his last three starts. Help also gone 7-1 in his NIGHT starts compared to 3-3 in his DAY starts. He’s also dominated tonight’s opponent. Perez beat the Royals back in May, and has now gone a perfect 5-0 against ‘em since the 2017 season (2.34 ERA). Getting the call for the host Royals will be lefty Kris Bubic. He’s only had ONE Quality Start (out of 9!) so far in the 2022 season… and comes in with a putrid ERA of 7.37. Like his counterpart, we’ll be AGAINST him at the right time…. as Bubic has a higher ERA at home this year (7.78) than he does on the road (6.75).
This is a series that Texas usually DOMINATES. The RANGERS have gone 28-8 in the last 36 meets vs the Royals. And that includes 10-4 in the last 14 played IN Kansas City. And from the ‘Team Trend’ department, we already know that the Royals SUCK on Mondays (22-48 last 4 years). Also, Kanas City does historically BAD vs the AL West Division (36-80). Its comforting to now that TEXAS has done very well as of late against SOUTHPAWS (7-1 L8 vs lefties). The Rangers are averaging a full run-per-game HIGHER against lefties (5.2) than the Royals are (4.2).
