Jags/Texans games saw 27 and 23 points in their two matchups last season. In week 2's matchup, we should not be expecting much different
Deshaun Watson took six sacks and 11 hits via the Saints and played through back pain, and now faces elite Jags defensive line. Deshaun Watson has thrown for only 5.8 yards per pass attempt and two touchdown passes in three games played versus the Jaguars. Deshaun Watson also projects to be playing with the lead in this game, where he is less effective (Mostly due to Bill Obrien's conservative play calling) when playing from behind averages 8.7 YPA and 6.2 YPC. When playing from ahead he averages 7.4 YPA and 4.8 YPC. The strength of the Jags defense is boundary cornerbacks and defensive line, while they struggle at covering tight ends and dealing with clever offenses. That makes them a good matchup against the Texans.
The Jaguars scored a touchdown on 1-of-23 possessions versus the Texans in 2018. Now, Enter a sixth round rookie quarterback who struggled mightily in the preseason before having a good game against the Chiefs. Minshew does not look to stretch the field vertically, relying more on accuracy and short passes. And that is okay, because the Texans do not have many players who can stretch the field. Expect a heavy dose of Leonard Fournette and short passes from the Jags offense.
