Analysis

1-star (874) Oregon -5 over UC Irvine. 9:40pm ET. I am going to continue to ride a red-hot Oregon team. The Ducks have now have won 9 straight games by 18 ppg, covered 9 straight games by 15 ppg and have only allowed 54 ppg in that span. Obviously, there was a fundamental change in their line-up as they went with four players who are all 6-foot-9. Dana Altman is one of the best coaches in the country and this was an Oregon team that had some preseason Top 10 love. On the other side,Irvine has won 17 straight games but only one of those game came against a team ranked in the Top 170 and that was their first round upset over a Kansas St team playing without their best player. In non-conference action earlier this season, Irvine was 1-3 SU/ATS vs Top 75 teams losing by an average of 11 ppg.

Lean (870) Texas Tech -4 over Buffalo. 6:10pm ET. Buffalo is having one of the best seasons in the history of the MAC and they are fresh off another blowout win in the first round over an Arizona school (crushed Sun Devils this year, crushed the Wildcats last year). The thing that worries me here is the Bulls aren't a great 3-point shooting team (No. 212) while Texas Tech is really good at defending it (No. 16). Also note with a spread around 4-7 points, free throws can be really important and Texas Tech has the advantage here hitting 72.4% from the charity stripe while Buffalo ranks only No. 241 in the country in that category.

Small Lean (871/872) Ohio St/Houston UNDER 132.5. 8:40pm ET. The Buckeyes were one of the big surprises of the first round in their upset win over Iowa St. The fact they struggled from the field on offense (only hit 39.7% of their FG's including 25% from 3) and still won says a lot about their No. 21 defense. The problem is now they're facing a Houston defense that is No. 1 in the country in effective FG %. Both teams run a slower tempo (Houston No. 252 and Ohio St No. 277) and the Cougars have seen the UNDER go on a 9-3 run in their last 12 games.

Lean (876) Virginia Tech -8.5 over Liberty. 7:10 pm ET. This is a very good Virginia Tech team that is being under-valued in the market place. Number one, they recently lost a couple of OT games to a damn good Florida St team (ask Murray St) that could've gone either way. Number two, they got back their guard Justin Robinson who was out for 10-plus games at the end of the regular season. The thing that worries me here is it will be hard for Virginia Tech to get margin when both teams run very slow tempos (VT No. 336, Liberty No. 349). Note the Hokies will have the height advantage here.
