This Sunbelt Conference opener for the host Mountaineers can easily be classified as our NO-BRAINER ‘Over’ of the week. After all, these two teams are already a combined PERFECT 7-0 O/U in the season thus far. South Alabama has gone 4-0 O/U so far, with an impressive average of 70.8 combined points per game. And Appalachian State has gone 3-0 O/U, with an average of 72.0 combined PPG. Not only that, but this SERIES has gone 2-0 O/U in the last two meetings as well (64.5 combined PPG). The spotlight in this matchup is the QB duel of Evan Oeth and Zac Thomas. Both have posted very efficient stat lines through the first quarter of the season, and there’s no reason to think otherwise in Saturday’s game. Ortho has gone 66 for 96 for 789 yards and a 6-1 TD/INT ratio. Thomas has gone 50 for 67 for 750 yards and also a 6-1 TD/INT ratio. Weather should be absolutely perfect for this Homecoming game, and we also get a nice (relatively) low OU number that shouldn't be difficult to eclipse. Based on the spread and OU line, the predicted final score is: Appalachian State 40.5 - South Alabama 15.5.
