This number is bouncing back and forth between 48 and 47.5 right now. I feel the number is correct because it's so early in the season and the numbers suggest this be the total. I'm just not sure I buy into the numbers overall though. Both teams can play defense and they've showed that for 2 games a piece. Aztecs at home are tough and they are all about defense. The offense they have right now is very limited. They struggle to pass the ball and they'll need that to move the chains. I'm not sure they can do it though with the QB they have. WR core is weak and the Sun Devils defense has been very good thus far. On the flip side the AZ St. rush defense has been lights out for two games. Only 32ypg...Aztecs not far behind just allowing 51ypg on the ground...Now that would seem to lead us that this game could be all passing. I'd hate to see that, because we would lose our wager. My feeling is both teams try to run no matter what the result is at times. Neither team will just say screw it. That's like backing down and both teams are aware that nobody can run on the other team. The only thing that really scares me is the fact that AZ St will throw the ball with Wilkens. We just have to hope the Aztecs pass defense is playing well. If they are, this game won't hit 38. I feel good about 48 or even 47.5 at this point. I feel we have a buffer. Once one of these teams has even a slight bit of success on the ground. Look for them to not get away from it and that will chew the clock and get them stuck in 3rd and long. Tricky game, but the under is the way to go.
