In my opinion the Cardinals at anything approaching this price is a good value and legit opportunity to take a good shot with them. I like Max, obviously. I have ever since his days pitching here for Mizzou. But he is 2-4 against the Cards in eight starts despite a strong era. The Nat's historically struggle to give him much run support. Taking the ball to oppose him we have young Jack Flaherty who in my view has been the best starter in their second half run to the post season. We all know how fickle most followers can be and since the Cards have now dropped a couple of games they are jumping ship. How soon people forget. The stubborn fact remains this team has still won a stellar 18 of their last 23 games and even if they fail to run down the Cubs they are still a legitimate wild card contender and not a club anyone would want to square off against in the post season. As for Flaherty, anytime hall of fame pitcher Bob Gibson raves about a young pitcher one should take heed. Gibson throws around lofty compliments like man hole covers. But Gibson is right. Flaherty is not afraid to word the zone inside and not let batters crowd the plate, much like Gibson did and that is what caught his eye. Plus, I like the fact the Nationals have yet to step in against him. Washington has been, well, typical Washington. They underachieve consistently. The Cardinals have been road warriors of late and most the season and have now won ten of their last eleven road ball games. Coming off the two losses and facing Scherzer they are taking the field Monday in Washington in the role of significant underdog. To me, this is a solid shot for a decent payday. I am gong double star rabid dog on the St Louis Cardinals here.
