I bet this during last night's game in about the sixth inning - I like it more after last night's game went so long. Neither team had a bullpen to begin with, now off of a 12 inning game there are exactly zero rested arms. The Reds' pen at home already had a 4.30 ERA with a terrible save percentage, while the White Sox pen had a 1.56 WHIP over the last week before last night. But, it is and was all about the starters. Covey started the season well, for the most part, and kept the ball in the part. That's not been the case of late as he allowed FOUR jacks to Texas last start, has walked an average of four batters per start the last three starts, and has hardly ever pitched deep. So, see White Sox bullpen. Romano has been better lately, but he went through a stretch of allowing four or more (usually more) runs in five straight starts in May. This is a guy with a 1.50 WHIP in 177 big league innings, so the sum of the parts isn't good. Both of these guys are young, and as I said yesterday this is the time of year when pitchers, especially young ones, start to get tired with a big workload - right before the All Star break. Both teams are averaging about 6 runs per game over the last week so there are too many scenarios whereby this is another high scoring game, and only a pitchers' duel keeps it under - these aren't elite pitchers, and I can see a scenario where one of these teams gets these runs with little or no help. It's a bit polygonic (square) but probably another winner.
Anyone just on today, I just bet the Rays at 1:05 est.
