10:10pm ET / 7:10pm PT
TEXAS RANGERS w/ Hamels @ LOS ANGELES DODGERS w/ Maeda
2** Play on: OVER THE TOTAL (7.5 runs)
Get your play in ASAP. We got ours in at the opening line of 7.5 runs. By the time this game starts, it could be up in range of 8 runs. We’re hitting the INTERLEAGUE games for our OVER of the DAY. At 7:10pm PT, it’ll be THE LA DODGERS hosting the TEXAS RANGERS in Game Two of their Interleague series. Last night’s Game One easily went OVER theTotal. The OU line for that game was 8.5 runs. Both teams combined for 24 hits… 4 ‘dongs’… and a whopping 17 runs. We see the same outcome in tonight’s Game Two. This one came close to BEST BET status, based on the strong OU tendencies for the ‘Man in Blue’. But he’s only been around for a relatively short time, so his actually sample size is pretty low. We’ll hold off on the BEST BET… but a normal 2** Play is STILL warranted.
If you have been following LA recently, then you already know that they are easily in a big-time POWER surge. The Dodgers are already the #1 OVER team in all of Baseball for the season, with their current record of 36-27-3 O/U. But that’s nothing to what they have been doing lately. LA comes into tonight’s contest on a 9-1 O/U run in their last ten games, with a gaudy average of 13.6 combined runs per game. Yes, they have been scoring BIG (8.4 runs per game on offense), but they have also been ALLOWING a fair share of runs as well (5.2 runs per game). In addition, EACH of the their last SIX games have gone OVER (6-0 O/U).
The current power surge has been led by Joc Peterson (7 HRS in last 8 games). Last night, they got ‘dongs’ from Peterson, Max Muncy, and Yasiel Puig. Peterson is 13-26 (.500)in his last 8 games. Muncy has gone deep in 4 STRAIGHT games. And the Dodgers TEAM has 29 home runs already in this month of June. That’s 2.9 home runs PER game! They could very well feast AGAIN tonight. Because they’ll be taking an opposing pitcher in Cole Hamels of the Rangers that has given up 2 or more home runs in EACH of his last four starts. Hamels’ ERA in his last three games is a very shaky 5.23. With an average of 9.32 RPG vs lefties in their last ten, the Dodgers could very well go OVER this Total of 7.5 runs ALL BY THEMSELVES...
On the flip side, pencil in the RANGERS for at least 3 to 4 runs based in the LA starting pitcher. Kenta Maeda last pitched on May 29th. He suffered a right hip strain against the Pirates in that game, and had to leave in the 2nd inning. he is scheduled to be activated from the Disable List prior to the game today, and make the start tonight. He threw a successful bullpen session on Sunday, but did NOT make a Minor League rehab start. So he won’t be in 100% form tonight, and is (naturally) ripe for a potential ‘blow up’.
Working behind the dish tonight will be part-time, ‘fill in’ Umpire SEAN BARBER. Unlike most Men in Blue who have already worked 12-14 games this season, Barber has worked only SIX. His numbers are pretty one-sided though from an OU perspective. His six games have resulted in a 5-1 O/U record. That percentage of 83% Overs is good for the 2nd BEST ranking in the league out of 75 guys). The only Umpire with a higher percentage of OVERS is Adrian Johnson (11-2 O/U / 85% Overs). So while Barber’s overall sample size is pretty low (he’s gone 42-31-1 O/U in his entire career), he’s still worthy of a normal 2** Play tonight.
