Virginia is really struggling right now, the Cavaliers have dropped three consecutive games and four of the last five overall as well. This should have them dropped significantly in the overall rankings, but they should be able to rebound in this one tonight.
Tony Bennett’s team struggles to consistently score and they are not a great rebounding team. Even so, the Cavaliers are efficient on both ends of the floor and especially on defense. Virginia leads the country in scoring defense in allowing only 55.8 points per game and they really make opponents work to score points. In each of their last two defeats to Duke and North Carolina, the Cavaliers gave up only 65 points to both teams, a total number well below their team averages.
Miami shares the same record at 18-8 overall and 8-6 in conference play. The ACC has been the best conference in college hoops this year and Miami has played well enough to remain on the top half. The Hurricanes have won four of the last five games and they have been decent on the road, winning three of their seven games away from home.
With the spread being pretty high and the total number relatively low, the Hurricanes will need to take advantage of second-chance opportunities if they arise in addition to knocking down shots.
Virginia has struggled just enough that the Hurricanes can cover here.
