College Basketball Michigan Wolverines at Wisconsin Badgers Start Time, Betting Odds, Free Pick

The Wisconsin Badgers are hosting the Michigan Wolverines tonight in college basketball action. The game is scheduled for a 9:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. The college basketball odds for the game have the Badgers favored by a comfortable margin to come away with the win.

Michigan could really use a resume-building win, but it’s tough to see them winning in Madison tonight. The Badgers are ranked 17th in the country and have a solid 3-1 record in Big Ten games this season, losing only on the road at Purdue last week.

The Badgers are coming off a huge win over Ohio State at home last weekend, a place they play well. The hot start has given the Badgers a spot atop the Big Ten standings in the loss column, only Maryland sits above them with a 4-1 conference record.

Michigan has not had a good season to date — the Wolverines are 12-6 overall and are a lowly 2-3 in Big Ten play, only the loss to Maryland came in Ann Arbor. Defeats to Illinois and Iowa really saw the Wolverines get out-played for long stretches and they have to avoid that at all costs tonight in order to compete.

Wisconsin has zero Top 50 wins, but they have five wins against the Top 100. Michigan’s RPI ranks 73rd nationally, so this would still be a decent win for Greg Gard and his group.

The Wolverines have to get better defensively, they’re giving up 104.2 points per 100 possessions to opponents this season, which ranks 186th nationally. Michigan’s offense can score and has been effective, but their inability to stop anyone has haunted them.

Michigan only has one “for-sure” win left on the schedule, coming Feb. 22 at Rutgers. The rest of the schedule is filled with Top 100 RPI teams and Michigan is going to have to find a way to piece together some wins if they want to be a tournament team. But playing at Wisconsin and winning is a tall task, especially when the defense has struggled so much.

Nigel Hayes should have a big game.
