USC is one of the hottest teams in the country and they are traveling just a little while to play in this game. While teams playing in bowl games always have motivational factors and youngsters certainly like to travel to other parts of the country to play, USC playing just up the road should give them an advantage.
The Trojans dropped three of their first four games overall but have peeled off eight consecutive victories, seven of which coming by double-digit finals. Youngster Sam Darnold is a very solid quarterback that has improved each week and played very strong as a freshman. He’s certainly going to get better, which will make USC a great team in the near future as well. Darnold can put up big numbers in this game throwing to JuJu Smith-Schuster and a bevy of other receivers. USC also has a pretty good run game led by Ronald Jones II, the team averages better than five yards per carry overall.
Penn State won the Big Ten, they are also red hot and have won nine in a row overall, last losing at Michigan 49-10. Saquon Barkley, the offensive player of the year in the conference that ran for 1,300 yards and 16 touchdowns, leads the Nittany Lions into this contest. QB Trace McSorley has also played well for Penn State this season on that side of the football, he’s thrown for 25 scores this season.
USC is better on offense, defense and in special teams. If they show up focused the Trojans should win this game comfortably.
