This is the first of two games being played inside Madison Square Garden tonight in the Champions Classic. Hard to find a better selection of blue bloods meeting on one court tonight and these two games should be a strong evening.
Michigan State dropped its opening game of the season in an up and down contest against Arizona. Some poor defensive moments really cost the Spartans in that game, especially the final bucket where Kadeem Allen drove the length of the floor for the game-winner.
Miles Bridges is the real deal, but it looks like Michigan State needs a leader to emerge. There’s no reason a Tom Izzo team should jump out to a 17-2 lead and not be able to win the game. Because of the loss, expect a focus and hungry Spartan club tonight.
Kentucky is once again led by a bunch of freshmen, De’Aron Fox, Malik Monk and Edrice Adebayo all are athletic and could cause Michigan State problems. Sophomore Isaiah Briscoe came back to Kentucky for games like this and he leads the Wildcats in scoring at 19 points per game.
Michigan State will look to rebound, defend and get Bridges involved in the game early. But coming off a tough loss and having to fly all the way from Hawaii in a short amount of time might have them fatigued.
