Michigan Wolverines at Iowa Hawkeyes Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

The third-ranked Michigan Wolverines are on the road in college football action tonight, taking on the Iowa Hawkeyes. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ABC. The college football odds for the game have the Wolverines favored by almost three touchdowns to pick up the win on the road.

Some think this might be a spot where Michigan stubs its toe, but in being favored by three touchdowns that seems unlikely. There's an old saying that defenses always travel and that's what Michigan will hang its hat on tonight. The Wolverines have arguably the best defense in the country, leading the NCAAs in several key categories, and they're taking on an Iowa team that really isn't that explosive offensively.

The Hawkeyes have beaten Michigan the last three times the Wolverines have come to Iowa City. This might be a little different, though. Michigan has a legitimate shot to run the table and earn a berth in the Big Ten title game, plus they are playing strong football right now. At the beginning of the season three games looked like it could determine the season — road games at Michigan State, Iowa and Ohio State. The Wolverines have already beaten the Spartans and are now just a couple of games away from ending the regular season unbeaten.

C.J. Beathard is a veteran quarterback, but Iowa is really not a team that likes to pitch it around and have big plays in the passing game. The Hawkeyes love to run the rock and for the most part, Michigan has been very good against the run.

The Wolverines are allowing just 10.7 points per game to opponents. Jabrill Peppers and the Wolverine defense will be ready to play on national television in a night game to showcase its talents.

Michigan is the third straight ranked opponent Iowa is playing and the Hawkeyes dropped each of the previous two, 17-9 to Wisconsin and 41-14 to Penn State. Michigan owns wins over both of those teams and Iowa will struggle to score.
