The Iowa State Cyclones are hosting the Oklahoma Sooners in Big 12 college football action on Thursday night. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. The college football odds for the game have the Sooners favored by three touchdowns to pick up the win.

Iowa State rises up and wins one of these games every so often. This year, it’s not going to happen. Oklahoma dropped a couple of games early in the season but now they are right back in the playoff hunt, coming in at No. 14 in the first College Football Playoff rankings. Since losing to Oklahoma back in September, the Sooners have piled up five straight wins and they have been scoring a ton of points, the 38 against Kansas State was the fewest in the run.
But, outside of holding Kansas to just three points last week, the group of TCU, Texas, Kansas State and Texas Tech has averaged 40.5 points per game. In other words, the Oklahoma defense is going to have to get things figured out as they rank 101st nationally in points given up per game.
Iowa State is in a transition season with Matt Campbell, he’s going to get things figured out in Ames but it’s going to take some time. He was a winner at Toledo and now that he has better facilities and money the Cyclones will get there.
But in this game, the Cyclones are going to have to circle the wagons just to find a way to hang around. Oklahoma has new life and Bob Stoops and the gang have three straight games against ranked opponents — Baylor, West Virginia and Oklahoma State — left on the schedule. If they can win each of those remaining games and get to 10 wins on the season, they could end up in a damned good situation at the end of the season.
