LSU has played well in the two games since firing Les Miles, albeit against Missouri and Southern Miss in home games. The Tigers now have to play three straight tough contests against the Rebels here, Alabama next game and at Arkansas following that. The Tigers should have the focus looking to continue the turnaround for their season in this one, but Ole Miss is a team that will be tough to beat. The Rebels are 3-3 overall and are coming off a loss at Arkansas.
This will be just the second road game of the season for Ole Miss, the other two losses on the schedule came against Florida State and Alabama. Chad Kelly talks a big game but at times he can be very effective. He’s accounted for 17 touchdowns this season and Ole Miss has relied on his arm quite a bit as they aren’t a team that runs the football too well. Kelly can make some plays with his feet, though, and LSU will have to be ready for that in key spots.
LSU has had all kinds of problems at quarterback this season, but it looks like Danny Etling will continue to be the guy. Last week he threw for three touchdowns in a win over Southern Miss on only 11 completions, gaining confidence could be huge for him and the Tiger offense. Leonard Fournette is expected to play here as he returns to a team that looks a lot better now than it did a few weeks back. Many thought Fournette would just shut this season down and prepare for the NFL Draft, but now the Tigers have a legitimate shot at finishing with a strong season.
LSU’s defense could be the difference here. They’re better than Ole Miss on that side of the football and the Tigers are playing better at this point in the season. Even so, the line here looks a bit big for a team like Ole Miss that can score some points.
