The top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide are hosting the Tennessee Volunteers in college football action on Saturday afternoon. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on CBS. Alabama looks to remain unbeaten and atop the rankings here despite playing a tough road game. The Crimson Tide have now won 10 straight games over ranked opponents as Nick Saban’s factory continues to be the measuring stick for the rest of the country.
If Tennessee can hang in this game, it’s going to need a better effort from its defense. During SEC play the Vols are giving up more than 34 points per game despite being 2-1 as Florida, Georgia and Texas A&M each have scored at least 28 points in games against Tennessee. Alabama is balanced, big up front and has gotten great play from quarterback Jalen Hurts this season, so they will be looking to put up points.
This game ends a four-game stretch for Tennessee that was one of the toughest in the country. Butch Jones’ team having to play Florida, at Georgia, at Texas A&M and Alabama at home is brutal, even if they lose this game and finish 2-2 that’s certainly not the worst thing in the world. Even so, the Vols have dug themselves in a couple of holes and found a way out. Despite losing last week they remain inside the Top 10 as pollsters recognized a double overtime loss at Texas A&M was still a pretty good effort.
The key in SEC play is being able to bring that effort each week. If Tennessee can’t find a way to once again have an energy-filled game they will get steamrolled by this big, bad Alabama team. Catching almost two touchdowns at home here with a talented team is worth the risk.
