The Notre Dame Fighting Irish open the season ranked 10th in the country, on Sunday night they take on the Texas Longhorns in college football action. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ABC. Currently the college football odds for the game have the Fighting Irish favored on the road.

Notre Dame travels down south to Austin to take on the Horns here in an exceptional game that takes center stage. The contest is the only one in college football on Sunday and should be a good game.
Texas is a program that has been down but the Horns believe they have a team that is going to be strong this season. Jerrod Heard returns, but he’s moved out to wide receiver now. It looks like the Longhorns could play a couple of guys at quarterback, Tyrone Swoopes returns from a less than ideal 2015 season while many believe incoming freshman Shane Buechele is going to be a great QB for the Horns.
The Fighting Irish are also looking to play a couple of guys at quarterback. They’ve got a couple of good ones in Malik Zaire and DeShone Kizer, but the receiver position will take a bit of a step back now that Will Fuller is in the NFL. Even so, it’s certainly been tough for Texas to have to prepare for both guys.
The Texas defense has to play better than they did last year. The Horns were blown out of a handful of games last season and certainly have to improve on that. The 38-3 blowout at the hands of Notre Dame to open last season has to still be a rallying point for this Longhorn team, last year they went just 3-3 in home games, which obviously has to improve as well.
This could be the year for the Longhorns. After a 5-7 season last year, this game has been circled and Texas has been preparing.
