The Chicago Cubs are hosting the New York Mets tonight in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the MLB Odds for the game have the Cubs favored to pick up the victory at home.

Chicago went from having the best record in baseball recently to now owning the third-best mark in the National League. While being in first place in July doesn’t guarantee anything, the Cubs are looking to get back to the top spot soon. Playing at home has been a positive for Chicago all season and tonight they will look to improve upon one of the best marks in the league — Chicago is 28-15 at home. On the other side, the Mets are an average road team (23-22).

Jon Lester (9-4, 3.01 ERA) gets the ball for the Cubs tonight, he will look to give them a win tonight at home and finally pick up a win against the Mets. New York recently swept the Cubs in Queens, Chicago never scored more than three runs in and of the four games. Lester lost one of those four games, lasting just 1 1/3 innings and yielding eight earned runs while allowing nine hits.

Lester hasn’t made a start at home in a month, in the four starts on the road since his last at home Chicago went just 1-3 in his games.

Steven Matz throws tonight of the Mets, he’s 7-5 with a 3.38 ERA covering 16 starts. He recently pitched the Mets to a win over the Cubs, tossing 5 1/3 innings while allowing three earned runs but earning a no decision.

The pitching matchup will certainly highlight tonight’s game, both guys should be rested as well. The Mets have won seven straight regular season games over the Cubs, but with Lester on the mound and the solid home record Chicago can win tonight.
