On Saturday, the second leg of the Triple Crown takes place in the 141st Preakness Stakes. The race is scheduled for a 6:20 p.m. EST start time and it will be televised nationally on NBC. Nyquist, winner of the Kentucky Derby, will look to break through and win the second leg of the Triple Crown. Tonight, the 2016 Preakness Stakes Post Position draw will take place at 5 p.m. in Pimlico’s Sports Palace and streamed live on www.drf.com.
The post positions will be made official tonight, last year American Pharoah won the race but competed against only seven other horses.
Nyquist is going to be favorite to win the race, based on it being the second leg of the Triple Crown. The "Run for the Black-Eyed Susans" is held on the third Saturday in May and is only trumped by the Kentucky Derby in attendance for North American stakes races. The 141st Preakness Stakes is scheduled to take place on May 21, 2016 at Pimlico in Baltimore, Maryland.
Preakness Facts: Opening day at Pimlico Race Course in 1870 featured the Dinner Party Stakes that was won by a horse named Preakness. In the racetrack's spring meet of 1873, the 3-year-old stakes race was named after him and the rest is history. The first official Preakness was won by Survivor with a 10 length cushion between him and second place. This record win was not topped until 2004 when Smarty Jones took home the title by an amazing 11 lengths.
