The Washington Nationals are taking on the St. Louis Cardinals today in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for a 2:15 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on MLB Network. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Cardinals favored to pick up the win in this one at home.
MLB Odds
St. Louis -125
Total: 7 runs
The Washington Nationals have the second-best record in the National League behind the Chicago Cubs. Dusty Baker’s bunch has raced out to 15 wins already this season and they’ve picked up six wins the last 10 games overall, finding a way to stay just ahead of the surging New York Mets, who have picked up seven straight wins and nine of the last 10 overall.
Washington has won seven of 10 away from home, they’ll take on a Cardinals team here that is only 5-5 in home games to start the season. The Cards have dropped two straight games, but the offense has been very strong all season.
St. Louis has one of the best run differentials in all of baseball, they’ve outscored opponents by 44 runs this season. That ranks second-best in the league behind, of course, the Cubs.
Jaime Garcia (1-1, 3.24) starts for the Cardinals, he’s allowed the Nationals to hit .280 against him over 82 plate appearances. Bryce Harper has homered off him, as has Jayson Werth. In the last three seasons Garcia has started twice against the Nats, going 2-0 while allowing just two earned runs in better than 12 innings.
Joe Ross (2-0, 0.54) has been lights out for the Nationals. The youngster has really made a strong impression this season. Currently only Jhonny Peralta has a hit off Ross for the Cardinals, who are 1-of-12. Peralta obviously isn’t playing today.
The Nats are playing well, Ross is pitching strong and today they get another win.
