MLB Odds
Los Angeles -290, Miami +262
Total: 6.5 runs
The Dodgers are a huge favorite and the total is just over six runs in this game for a pretty obvious reason: Clayton Kershaw. The big lefty is the best pitcher in the game today and comes into tonight’s game with a 2-0 record and 1.50 ERA. There’s history to show that Kershaw has struggled in the early portions of the season, but he has been lights out so far this season.
Kershaw is coming off a 10-strikeout game where he earned a no decision at Atlanta, a game where the Dodgers eventually won in extra innings. Kershaw has been phenomenal in home starts the past few seasons as well, going 29-11 over his last 40 starts with a 1.64 ERA.
The Marlins give the ball to Tom Koehler tonight. He’s 1-2 with a 4.80 ERA on the season, splitting a pair of starts with the Nationals while losing to Atlanta. Koehler’s given up just eight earned runs in the three starts, but hasn’t really been able to go deep in a game yet. His first start of the season might have been his best despite losing to the Nationals. Koehler tossed 6 1/3 innings, allowed only two earned runs and struck out six.
Current Dodgers are hitting .295 against him in 88 at bats and four players have a home run against him. Koehler’s numbers haven’t been great at Dodger Stadium, where he has a record of 0-2 with a 4.30 ERA the past few seasons. He’s tossed 14 2/3 innings in those two starts, giving up 16 hits.
Kershaw is just too good at home.
