The San Francisco Giants are hosting the San Diego Padres tonight in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for a 10:15 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on MLB.tv. Currently the baseball betting odds for the game have the Giants favored to pick up the victory at home.

This should be a solid game between a couple of teams from California. The Padres have not had a good season at 7-13, San Francisco enters the game under .500 as well with a 10-11 record. The Giants picked up a 5-4 win last night, Madison Bumgarner wasn’t exceptional and the bullpen gave up a couple of runs as well, but in the end San Francisco was too much for the Padres.
In tonight’s game, it’s Johnny Cueto and James Shields. Cueto has been a strong pickup for the Giants so far this season, going 3-1 with a 3.49 ERA. Shields has struggled to open the year, going 0-3 with a 4.15 ERA.
Cueto won his first three starts to the season, beating the rival Dodgers twice while throwing at least seven innings in each of his four games. Yet, he’s given up almost a hit per inning this season and surrendered 11 earned runs in his four combined starts. Three of those runs came in a loss to Arizona last time out, the Giants dropped a 6-2 decision. Cueto struck out only three in that one and didn’t have his best stuff.
Shields has four starts on the season, San Diego has lost all four of those games. He hasn’t put up big strikeout numbers yet and tonight he makes his second start on the road. Current Giants own a .222 average against him over 135 at bats, he hasn’t given up a home run yet and nobody really has good numbers against him.
For what it’s worth, the Padres are hitting .351 against Cueto over 94 at bats. John Jay has three homers, Matt Kemp has a pair of dingers as well. Alexei Ramirez has a great resume against Cueto, collecting seven hits in 11 at bats.
This should be a nice matchup, look for the Giants to win at home.
