Cole Hamels was supposed to throw tonight, but he is getting skipped because of a groin injury. Instead, Cesar Ramos will start his 11th career game tonight. He has a career 3.60 ERA but has spent most of his career as a guy coming out of the bullpen. It’s a small sample size, but for what it’s worth current Yankees are hitting .191 against him over 47 at bats.
Nathan Eovaldi gets the ball for the Yankees, he’s 0-2 with a 6.11 ERA on the year. His losses have come to Oakland and Toronto this season, but in both games he found a way to get into the sixth inning. He gave up a combined seven earned runs in those two defeats, but the offense couldn’t help him out enough, scoring just four runs. Eovaldi can really bring the heat from the mound, but he’s 11 games under .500 for his career, so it isn’t exactly helping him win games.
Neither team is playing well this season, but can the journeyman Ramos help pitch the Rangers to a win? Tough to tell.
