NCAA?Basketball continues on Sunday night when the Northern Iowa Panthers take on the Texas A&M?Aggies in the second round of the NCAA?Tournament. The game is being scheduled for a 7:40 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationonally on truTV. The tournament odds for the game have the Aggies favored by 6.5 points to pick up the win.
Texas A&M took what was a clode game early against Green?Bay in the opening round and blew the doors off the Phoenix in a 92-65 win. They were the bigger, more phsyical team that also had the talent edge on its side and that really showed on Friday.
Northern?Iowa got the shot of the tournament so far, Paul Jesperson hit a banked in half-court heave as time expired to beat Texas in a play that epitomizes March?Madness. The Panthers had played a strong game in that one up to that point, only to see Texas claw back and nearly force overtime.
How will UNI respond in this one? The Panthers surely will still be dealing with the emotions of that win, but have to find a way to get it back to level in order to face Texas A&M.
The Aggies tied Kentucky for the SEC?regular season title and got the 1 seed in the conference tournament, but fell to the Wildcats in the finals. A key matchup in this one will be Wes Washpun and Texas A&M senior guard Alex Caruso. Washpun is the best player for UNI and will have the ball in his hands on every possession when he is in the game. Texas A&M has to find a way to keep him slowed down and continue to play well on the defensive end.
The Aggies have one of the better defenses in the country, that will prove to be a difference here in this one.
