The top-ranked Villanova Wildcats are on the road in Big East College Basketball action today, taking on the Marquette Golden Eagles. The game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on FOX. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Wildcats favored by nearly double digits to pick up the win.

Villanova will be looking to bounce back from a loss earlier this week to Xavier. The Wildcats had previously won seven straight games before that defeat, now they have three winnable games down the stretch to end the season with 27 wins. Marquette, DePaul and Georgetown are all teams Villanova should have no problem beating, Jay Wright’s club will have to remain focused and take care of business in order to wrap up the Big East regular season title.

Marquette seems to be having a decent season. The Golden Eagles are 18-10 but they don’t have the resume to be an NCAA Tournament team. Nine of the 10 losses aren’t bad either, coming inside the Top 100, but a one-point loss to DePaul does not look good on the resume. Picking up a win here over the top-ranked team in the country would certainly help.

Villanova is deep and they have excellent guard play. The Wildcats will have to find a way to stop Henry Ellenson from having a big game in the post, though. Ellenson is a phenomenal freshman that is no-doubt headed to the NBA next season, he leads the Golden Eagles in points (16.7) and rebounds (10) per game this year. Marquette isn’t a great rebounding team but Ellenson certainly gives them a shot.

Villanova has been exceptional in road games this season, winning nine of 11 while piling up seven of those victories inside the Top 100. The Wildcats beat up on Marquette the last time around, but this one has a different feel. That might be due to Villanova coming up short against Xavier, but Marquette does come in winners of three of four.

The Golden Eagles would certainly benefit from a win here, but Villanova gets back on track with a comfortable win.
