The Iowa State Cyclones are taking on the Baylor Bears in a battle of Top 25 teams in Big 12 College Basketball tonight. The game is scheduled for a 9:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Bears favored by a handful of points in what should be a great game.
This is a big game for seeding in the Big 12 Tournament. Baylor, Iowa State and Texas each have 7-5 conference records this season. Kansas looks like they will once again win the conference, the five teams below them in the standings are all fighting for position as the season concludes.
Iowa State is just 7-5 the last 12 games overall, but they do have four wins against RPI Top 25 teams and seven against the Top 50. The Cyclones are a very strong team that could make some noise in the NCAA Tournament, but they have had their struggles on the road. Iowa State is just 4-4 away from home in true road games, but they do have two strong wins over Cincinnati and Kansas State.
Baylor knocked off Iowa State in Ames back in early January, a 94-89 contest where neither team played well defensively. The Bears will have to keep Iowa State under control again tonight, Iowa State can score a ton of points and Baylor is coming off a really poor loss at home to Texas Tech where they were blown out by the Red Raiders in Waco.
Both teams are locks for the NCAA Tournament, both have solid resumes and a sweep here for Baylor would be a strong statement. The Bears have a brutal schedule remaining with games against Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma and West Virginia the rest of the way as well. The Cyclones have a couple of tough games as well, but taking on TCU at home at the end of this week should not shift their focus.
Iowa State is good enough to win this game. They have the revenge angle going and could use a Top 50 road win.
