The UNLV Runnin’ Rebels are on the road tonight in college basketball action, taking on the New Mexico Lobos. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Lobos favored to pick up the victory at home.

UNLV has had a pretty trying season to this point and it probably won’t get any better tonight. Ben Carter is now lost for the season and the Runnin’ Rebels are faced with even more depth concerns, plus they are coming off a drubbing from San Diego State in Vegas just the other day.

New Mexico is 13-8 and has stabilized itself as a possible threat to San Diego State, if the Aztecs can drop some games. With a 6-2 mark in the Mountain West, the Lobos are in sole possession of second place in what looks like a potential one-big league. A victory here tonight over UNLV won’t be super-impressive given the state of the Rebels, but taking care of business in conference at home does look good.

UNLV won the first meeting between these schools back a few weeks ago. The Rebs had five guys in double figures but did end up losing the rebounding battle. Elijah Brown led New Mexico with 24 points and he has been putting up very strong games in a recent three-game winning streak for the Lobos — 33 against San Jose State, 17 in 25 minutes against Air Force and 30 against Boise State on the road.

New Mexico is playing better basketball right now. UNLV is still a mess despite all that talent, the Lobos pick up the win tonight.
