The Texas Longhorns are hosting the Vanderbilt Commodores this afternoon in college basketball action. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Longhorns favored at home to pick up the victory.

This is another intriguing game in the Big 12/SEC Challenge they have going on this weekend. Both schools are fighting for resume-building wins for a potential spot in the NCAA Tournament and either would benefit from a victory here. Texas has just one bad loss on the schedule this season, a 58-57 defeat to TCU earlier this month, that doesn’t look good. Beating Vandy wouldn’t give them a sixth Top 50 RPI win, but it would be another Top 100 victory.

Vanderbilt had just two Top 50 wins but has no bad losses, six defeats have been inside the Top 50 and overall they have a decent resume. A win here on the road against Texas would help the overall body of work and they really need a win to go along with the Florida victory.

Damian Jones and the young Vanderbilt guards have to play well here. Jones will match up with a solid front line for Texas and overall Vandy has won four of five, the lone loss was a blowout at Kentucky.

Texas has a brutal schedule down the stretch with games against Iowa State, West Virginia, Baylor and Oklahoma twice and Kansas. This is as close to must-win as the Horns can deal with right now.

Isaiah Taylor and Javan Felix have to carry this team to a home win. Vandy is a team the Horns can and should beat, especially on their home floor.
