The UNLV Runnin' Rebels look to get back on track tonight when they host the Boise State Broncos in college basketball action. The game is scheduled for an 11:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Rebels favored to pick up the victory at home.
The Rebels suffered a bad loss last time out, falling on the road to Nevada in a game where they led by double digits in the second half. The Rebels have to find a way to regroup in this one because Boise State can win big games. The Broncos come in on two straight wins and sit a game and a half behind San Diego State for the top overall spot in the Mountain West.
Road games haven't been a big concern for the Broncos either, with a 4-2 record away from home. UNLV can often times have a very strong home-court advantage, but the Rebels might need a little extra spark tonight.
UNLV defensively is strong, they rank eighth nationally in adjusted efficiency on that end of the court, allowing just 90.7 points per 100 possessions. Comparison-wise, the defense is on par with that of Purdue, San Diego State and Texas A&M to name a few, but it's been the offense that has really hurt UNLV this season. The Rebels rank 232nd nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency, they struggle to score points at times and it's been a big reason they have eight losses and Dave Rice is unemployed.
The Rebels have lost their eight games by an average of around 67-63. The Rebels should absolutely be winning games while holding opponents under 70 points, but six of their defeats have come in that margin.
Look for the Rebels to get out and run tonight. They need a loud Thomas & Mack Arena behind them to pick up a key win to remain somewhat alive in the Mountain West. A win here could help heading into Saturday's tilt with San Diego State.
