The Miami Hurricanes are playing host to the Duke Blue Devils tonight in ACC College Basketball action. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Hurricanes favored by a slim margin to pick up a conference win.
Duke has fallen on some hard times lately, the Blue Devils find themselves right in the middle of the conference standings. Miami is just above them by a half-game in ACC play, making this certainly a big game. This Blue Devils team just isn’t the same with Amile Jefferson on the bench due to his foot problem, when he does play Duke is a strong team.
A win over N.C. State this past weekend stopped a three-game skid for the Blue Devils, they lost a pair of low-scoring contests and one in the 90s as well. Tonight’s game in Miami has the feel of a game where a lot of points can be scored, both teams come in averaging around 80 points per contest, Duke is giving up almost six points more per contests.
Depth has been an issue for the Blue Devils, but a win here would five Duke its fourth ACC road win of the season. Shooting the 3-pointer could be promising for Duke in this one, Matt Jones is third in the conference at 2.5 triples per game, that could play a pivotal role tonight. Grayson Allen can knock down shots as well, plus Brandon Ingram might be the best overall player on the floor and will need to have a big game if Duke is going to win.
Miami would like to force the Blue Devil youngsters into making mistakes, but Duke has been impressive in the turnover department with just over 10 per contest. Turn the Blue Devils over and Miami has an excellent shot at winning.
The Hurricanes are pretty solid at home with their 9-1 record overall, they have four guys averaging double figures and are led by Sheldon McClellan. The Hurricanes should be ready to go in this one and although they dropped from the Top 10 rankings, a win over Duke would still be critical to their overall resume.
This Duke team is not amazing, but they can pick up a road win here. It could help get their season turned in the right direction after some tough losses.
