The Louisville Cardinals are taking on the Texas A&M Aggies tonight in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Cardinals favored to pick up the victory in this game.
Texas A&M opened as the favorite in this game, but then both of their quarterbacks transferred out of the program. Kevin Sumlin has a real mess on his hands and now will have to start youngser Jake Hubenak, a Blinn College transfer. He hasn’t taken a single snap all season for the Aggies and now is being thrown into the fire in this one.
Louisville’s defense will play a major role in this one tonight. The Cardinals have a very solid defense that ranked inside the Top 20 nationally in sacks with 33 and yards allowed per play at 4.79 for the year. Without either of their quarterbacks under helm in this one, Texas A&M is going to have to find a way to keep the Louisville defense from feasting on Hubenak. The Aggies will have to rely on Tra Carson, a 1,000-yard back, to keep them in this one.
On the flip side, Louisville QB Lamar Jackson is a home-run hitter. Four times this season he ran and threw for 100 yards and the youngster (he’s only a freshman) combined for 19 touchdowns. While he has made some young, inexperienced mistakes this season Jackson is a threat to score on almost every play.
Myles Garrett and the Aggie defense are good as well, Garrett is one of the best pass-rushers in the country and he led the SEC in sacks (11.5), tackles for loss (18.5) and forced fumbles with five.
The Cardinals have won five of their last six games to end the regular season, Brandon Radcliff can be a nice tailback for them and don’t be surprised if the Cards run some trick plays with a couple of their backup quarterbacks as well.
