The Minnesota Vikings are hosting the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football. The game is scheduled for an 8:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on NBC. Currently the NFL Odds for the game have the Vikings favored to pick up this contest at home.
The Vikings look to be the sixth overall team in the NFC playoff standings, they have two games on the Atlanta Falcons. Minnesota’s 9-5 record is tied with Seattle’s, but the Seahawks picked up a 38-7 drilling of the Vikings a couple of weeks ago gives them the head-to-head tiebreaker if they end with the same overall record.
Minnesota will look to hand the football off to Adrian Peterson quite a bit in this one. The Giants are not a great team against the run, they give up better than 114 yards on the ground to opponents per game, which should have Peterson geared up and ready to go in this one. Overall, New York is a poor defensive club, they rank dead last in total defense, allowing 423 yards per game to their opponents. Other teams surrender more points on average, but the Giants haven’t been able to stop anybody.
Odell Beckham Jr. is suspended for this one by the league due to his poor decisions on the field last week against Carolina. He had several incidents, and penalties, stemming from a one-on-one battle with Panthers DB Josh Norman.
Minnesota is banged up on defense, they have some key guys that are battling injuries and that could be a factor in this one if the Giants can find a way to run the football.
New York has played in several close games this season, they certainly know how to hang around with Eli Manning running the show. The Giants can win, but Minnesota is the better team right now and they have a lot to play for this late in the season.
