The Florida State Seminoles are on the road to take on the Florida Gators tonight in college football rivalry action. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the odds for the game have the Seminoles favored to pick up a victory in this game.
Probably a bit of a knee-jerk reaction that Florida State is now favored in this one. Florida really struggled last weekend, having to go to overtime to beat Florida Atlantic. The only blemish on the schedule for Florida came at LSU earlier this season, but the Gators have rebounded to pick up four straight victories. Florida State has a pair of losses this year, both of which came on the road — Georgia Tech and Clemson.
Treon Harris has led Florida since the suspension of Will Grier, but since that day the Gators have absolutely struggled to consistently move the football. In Grier's absence Florida is averaging just 4.62 yards per offensive snap, which has led to several closer, low-scoring games. Harris will face a fast, tough defense tonight when the Seminoles come to town.
The Noles have had their issues at quarterback this season, but it has been Sean Maguire that has played better than Notre Dame transfer Everett Golson. Either playing today will have to make plays in the passing game to get Florida State up and down the field.
Dalvin Cook is one of the best backs in the country, Florida knows that as well. Cook has almost 1,500 yards on the ground with 16 scores and the Gators will look to keep him under control. Maguire is going to have to get the football to Travis Rudolph and Kermit Whitfield and that balance should be important.
Offensively Florida State holds the edge, Florida has the better overall defense. The Seminoles find a way to get the win in this one in The Swamp.
