The Navy Midshipmen are set to take on the Houston Cougars in college football action on Friday. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ABC. Currently the college football betting odds for the game have the Midshipmen favored to pick up the win in this one.
Interesting that Navy is favored on the road in this one. The Middies are 7-0 in conference play compared to Houston's 6-1 mark, but note that Houston is still trying to rebound from a loss at lowly Connecticut last weekend where they scored only 17 points. The Cougars hadn't scored less than 33 points in any other game all season, which should give them some bit of caution heading into this battle with Navy.
Navy comes in ranked 15th in the country, they're 9-1 and have one of the most athletic quarterbacks in the country in Keenan Reynolds. The Midshipmen run the triple option attack, the 348.4 yards per game on the ground ranks second in the country behind Georgia Southern. Reynolds leads that attack, he's the only guy over 1,000 yards on the ground this season for Navy. He's got 18 touchdowns on the ground and has thrown for 650 yards more with five touchdowns and no picks through the air. He should be getting more Heisman love than he is, but playing at Navy with the opponents he faces won't get him a lot of attention.
Houston comes in with a pretty good quarterback themselves in Greg Ward Jr. He has 16 TDs on the ground and 13 more through the air, Ward has a combined 3,000 yards of total offense for the Cougars.
The defenses in this game will have to come up big for either team to pick up the win. It's tough to replicate the triple-option attack from Navy in practice, which will be the difference in this one. Navy will pick up the win on the road.
