The Thanksgiving Football tradition continues as the Detroit Lions take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday. The game is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on FOX. Currently the NFL?Odds for the game have the Lions favored to pick up the victory in this one.
Detroit always plays on Thanksgiving. While many around the country are filling their stomachs with turkey, mashed potatoes and all the fixins’ for lunch, the Lions are 35-38-2 all-time on Turkey Day. While Detroit playing in the early game is synonyms with Thanksgiving, we are seeing more and more games added each year. This year will see the Cowboys host the Panthers and the Packers host the Bears in other games.
The Lions have won the last two years on Thanksgiving, beating both Green?Bay and Chicago in convincing fashion. Prior to that they had lost nine games in a row, losing three times to the Packers.
This is the second time Detroit and Philadelphia will play on Thanksgiving — the Eagles beat Detroit 12-0 during the “Mud Bowl” of 1968.
The?Eagles are in the mess of the NFC?East this season with a 4-6 record, but as bad as the division has been they sit just a single game on the outside of first place. Chip?Kelly has been taking some heat all season for lackluster play from his team, now they have problems with?Sam Bradford, who is listed as questionable for this one.
Philly has dropped two straight games overall to Miami and Tampa Bay, coming off the short week against a Lions team that has won two straight will have its challenges.
Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson are poised for big games. It’s no secret the Lions play better at Ford Field and Detroit will be looking to pick up a win over the Eagles, who are struggling.
