The Iowa Hawkeyes welcome in the Purdue Boilermakers in Big Ten College Football action on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Hawkeyes favored to pick up the victory in this one.
Iowa has risen to the brink of the college football playoff at No. 5 in the rankings. Kirk Ferentz and his Iowa squad have been in some close games lately, but they have survived their schedule to this point. Iowa is 10-0 for the first time in school history and despite only playing only two ranked teams all season, it has not worked against them.
Both Indiana and Minnesota have pushed the Hawkeyes to the end the past two weeks, but Iowa was able to win both games. This team is averaging almost 34 points per game for the season and nearly 31 points in Big Ten play. Quarterback C.J. Beathard has pitched it around for better than 2,000 yards and 10 touchdowns, but Iowa certainly wants to establish the run game and pound the rock.
Iowa is averaging 4.8 yards per carry this season and Jordan Canzeri, LeShun Daniels, Akrum Wadley and Beathard all have at least six touchdowns on the ground.
Purdue has not had a good season at 2-8. They have just one conference win as well (coming over Nebraska, where they scored 55 points) and have lost consecutive games to Illinois and Northwestern where they scored just 14 points in each game.
Even so, just how good is Iowa? Purdue really has nothing else to play for at this point in the season and can use the spoiler moniker to rally the troops in this one.
Iowa has the regular-season finale coming up next week against Nebraska as well, plus they’ll be in the Big Ten title game coming up as well, will they take a week off here?
