The East Carolina Pirates take on the UCF Knights tonight in college football action. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the college football betting odds for the game have East Carolina favored by a couple of scores to pick up the victory.
UCF has been a dumpster fire all season. The Knights are 0-10, the record includes an 0-6 mark in the American Conference and head coach George O'Leary stepped down earlier in the season. With just a couple of games remaining, the Knights are looking to get out of the win column with that goose egg, the two remaining chances come against these Pirates and South Florida next week.
East Carolina has not had the type of season they wanted, either. The Pirates won't be bowl eligible unless they win their final two games of the season, they take on Cincinnati next week in the regular season finale.
Both of these teams give up more points than they score, obviously, but East Carolina has been able to at least score some points, averaging just under 27 per contest. UCF is scoring under 16 points per game themselves, the Knights also allow opponents to post better than 36 per contest. It's tough to get the players rallied up and ready to go week after week when they are getting beat by three touchdowns per week.
East Carolina QB Blake Kemp and tailback Chris Hairston should be able to pace the Pirates, though Hairston hasn't had a game over 100 yards rushing since the opener. He's had some solid games and several duds as well, but against the Knights "defense" he should be able to run the football.
Laying two touchdowns on the road in conference action seems like a bad idea. And even as horrible as UCF has been this year, it's always possible they circle the wagons and find a way to compete.
