The Kent State Golden Flashes are set to take on the Central Michigan Chippewas tonight in college football action. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPNu. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Chips favored by double digits to get the victory on the road.
Neither team has had a great season to date, though Central Michigan still has a chance to become bowl eligible with six wins. The Chips’ final two games come against Kent State tonight and Eastern Michigan in 10 days, a 7-5 record would be a pretty productive season. The Chips have only two losses in conference, coming to MAC West Toledo and Western Michigan squads that are a combined 11-2 in conference play. The Chips were on the verge of winning both of those games as well, dropping them by a combined seven points.
Kent State is catching double digits in this one because they are not a good football team. The Golden Flashes have just two offensive touchdowns dating back to Oct. 3, the span of five games where they went 1-4 and were out-scored 141-39.
This is the final home game for the Kent State football team this season, which should give them some type of pride. The quarterbacks have been bad (8 TDs, 10 INTs) and Kent State hasn’t been able to run the football (3.6 YPC) all season.
The defense is going to have to play well, but the Chips can score points. Central hasn’t been a great running team (2.9 YPC) either, but Cooper Rush gives them a distinct advantage in this one. Rush has completed better than 68 percent of his passes and thrown for 22 scores. Several players have caught at least four touchdowns through the air, giving Rush many options.
Central will look to rebound from a loss against Toledo last week.
