The Virginia Cavaliers are on the road in college basketball action tonight, taking on the George Washington Colonials. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2. Currently the college basketball betting odds have the Cavaliers favored to pick up the victory on the road.

This game is part of the 24-hour college basketball marathon put on by ESPN each year. There are several games being played during that span and the contest between Virginia and George Washington is going to be better than it looks on paper.

Virginia comes in ranked sixth nationally, the Colonials are not ranked but both schools are 1-0 on the season. Virginia certainly looked good in their home opener, beating up on Morgan State in an 86-48 final. George Washington was pushed a bit harder, beating Louisiana-Lafayette in a close battle that saw the Leopards out-score GW by 13 points in the second half. Lafayette really helped make the game close by connecting on 29-of-33 free throws in that one, from the floor they shot only 33 percent.

The Colonials dominated the glass in that one, holding a 50-32 advantage. Kevin Larsen led with 24 points and 11 boards, Tyler Cavanaugh added 15 points and hauled in a team-high 17 rebounds.

Virginia eclipsed the 40-point plateau in both halves, the Hoovs finished with four players in double figures, led by Mike Tobey’s 15 points in 19 minutes. The Cavaliers also dominated the game on the glass with a 50-21 advantage. Both Anthony Gill and Darius Thompson had double-digits as starters as well.

This contest will be a nice start to the marathon. Virginia is the more talented team, but this one is going to come down to the rebounding game. George Washington matches up well with the Cavaliers, getting three possessions is tempting, but Virginia gets the win.
