The Carolina Panthers are hosting the Philadelphia Eagles tonight on Sunday Night Football. The game is scheduled for an 8:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on NBC. Currently the NFL Odds for the game have the Panthers favored to pick up a victory at home.
Carolina is one of the surprises in the NFL this season, racing out to a 5-0 start after picking up a come from behind win last week over the Seattle Seahawks on the road. Cam Newton has not played great yet this season, which could make Carolina even more dangerous moving forward.
The Eagles are looking like they are starting to get things figured out. Philadelphia beat up on the Giants on Monday Night Football so they are dealing with a short week, but Chip Kelly has shown his teams can be ready to go. They're going to need it, because Carolina at home is a team that loves to run the football, play defense and grind out possessions.
Carolina owns wins over Houston and New Orleans at home, those games came in weeks 2 and 3. Overall the Panthers are posting 27 points per game, they've yet to give up more than 23 points to any opponent, but both Tampa Bay and Seattle have scored 23 points in two straight weeks.
The Eagles' record on the road is poor at 1-2, but the losses are a 2-point defeat to Atlanta and a 3-point loss to the Redskins. DeMarco Murray is getting the football more and that has shown to make the Eagles a better team on offense. Sam Bradford has to get better, though.
Bradford has been very poor when being blitzed and under pressure this season, Carolina knows that and will certainly be bringing a ton of pressure. Philadelphia might be the best team (gulp) in the NFC East and picking up a road win here over the Panthers would be huge.
Carolina loves to run the ball and they certainly won't hide from that tonight, but note that the Eagles have one of the better run defenses in the league. They're going to make this one interesting.
