The New York Mets host the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight in NLDS Game 4. The game is scheduled for an 8:07 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on TBS. Currently the odds for the game have the Dodgers favored to pick up the victory on the road.
New York is just one game away from playing in the National League Championship Series, they could find a way to win tonight. In fact, both Chicago and New York could end their their series' tonight and be playing each other for a chance at a World Series spot.
Standing in the Mets' way is Clayton Kershaw, who has struggled in his career in the post season. In his playoff career Kershaw is just 1-6 with a 4.99 ERA, but he is still regarded as the best pitcher in baseball. In order for him to knock off the only real negative talk about him, he needs to have a great start tonight.
During the regular season Kershaw went 5-4 in 16 starts. He still had an amazing 2.60 ERA in those starts, but still has to regroup from a loss to the Mets in Game 1 of this series. The lefty tossed 6 2/3 innings in that one, allowing three earned runs while striking out 11.
The Mets will start Steven Matz, the young lefty. He's 4-0 with a 2.27 ERA on the season in limited time, but he did throw six scoreless innings in a win at Dodger Stadium in July to pick up a win. Only A.J. Ellis and Enrique Hernandez picked up hits against him.
Matz and the Mets are one win away from reaching the NLCS, but Kershaw stands in the way on short rest. He needs a great start for the Dodgers to have a chance.
