The Detroit Lions are hosting the Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football. The game is scheduled for an 8:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on NBC. Currently the NFL Odds for the game have the Broncos favored by about a field goal to beat the Lions in this one.
Detroit has started the season at 0-2. The Lions have had some roster turnover from last year's 11-5 team that went to the playoffs, but Matthew Stafford still has a ton of weapons on the offensive side of the football. Detroit looked rusty against the Vikings last week in 26-16 loss, one week after they led San Diego by double digits but ended up losing on the road.
Denver made a statement victory in their most recent game, beating Kansas City 31-24 after trailing late in the game. The Broncos scored twice in the final minute of that game, escaping Kansas City and finding a way to move to 2-0. Peyton Manning has looked just fine under new head coach Gay Kubiak despite having an almost entirely new offensive line.
This game at Detroit is going to be a tough one as well, the Lions are known for playing well at Ford Field and there will be a capacity crowd of Lions fans looking to pick up the team's first win of the season. The Broncos defense has been one of the best in the league to date while Detroit has definitely taken a step back, ranking 31st in the NFL at allowing 416.5 yards per game on average.
Stafford is going to have to get the football to Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate and Ameer Abdullah early and often. The Broncos' top-ranked defense is looking to cause some problems for a sputtering Lions offense, but Detroit should be improved in playing at home.The Lions are getting points as a home underdog, if they can move the football against the Broncos they have an excellent chance to win.
Neither offense has really gotten going yet this season, so there could be a lull in points scored. That should be able to give the Lions an advantage here as they are home underdogs. Playing at home, Detroit finds a way to score enough points to beat Denver in what should be a good game.
