The final big game to kickoff in the Pac 12 today will feature the No. 19 USC Trojans take on the Arizona State Sun Devils. The game is scheduled for a 10:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Trojans favored to pick up the win on the road.
USC, with a loss here tonight, would fall to 0-2 in Pac 12 play and basically find themselves on the outside looking in for everything the rest of the season. It would be tough for them to find a way back into the conference title races with two losses this early in the season. Arizona State was beat up in the season-opening loss to Texas A&M, but this is their first conference game of the season after games against Cal Poly and New Mexico the past few weeks.
The Trojans were manhandled last week at home by Stanford, the Cardinal lined it up and ran the football for 195 yards and three touchdowns. Kevin Hogan did the things necessary to lead his team down the field consistently, he threw for 279 yards and two touchdowns as well as the Cardinal piled up some big yards in the Coliseum. USC's defense is going to have to find a way to bounce back in this contest and it will be tough because Arizona State is completely opposite of Stanford when it comes to offensive tendencies; the Sun Devils love to spread teams out and aren't the physical team Stanford brings.
The Sun Devils are going to need a big game from quarterback Mike Bercovici and running back Demario Richard. The duo have combined for nine touchdowns already this season and getting the football out to D.J. Foster as much as possible in space will be critical.
USC will need a better game from quarterback Cody Kessler. That's tough to say because of his near 80 percent completion rate and 10 touchdowns to no picks, but Kessler has to keep USC in the game with sustained drives against Arizona State. Tre Madden and Ronald Jones II have been awesome coming out of the backfield for the Trojans in the run game, they will each need to get a lot of touches for USC to find a way to win in this one.
Expect both offenses to put up points, the over looks like a solid bet here.
