Thursday Night Football Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

The Denver Broncos are on the road, taking on the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football. The game is scheduled for an 8:25 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on CBS and the NFL Network. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Chiefs favored to pick up the win at home.

Both Denver and Kansas City enter this one with 1-0 records, but they both picked up those victories in different ways. Denver was atrocious offensively against Baltimore, not even getting a touchdown pass from Peyton Manning. The defense for Denver was very solid, allowing only 13 points to the Ravens while intercepting two passes and scoring a touchdown. The Broncos held Joe Flacco to only 100 yards through the air and Baltimore finishes with a mere 73 yards rushing as well.

That defense will have to come up big again as Kansas City got three touchdown passes from Alex Smith, including two to tight end Travis Kelce. The Chiefs didn’t run the football well against Houston, despite the early two-score lead. It still worked for Kansas City, though, as the defense held up despite a strong comeback from Houston in the second half.

Denver didn’t run the football well, either. Both Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson combined to rush for only 70 yards on 24 carries but they could have better numbers against Kansas City. The Chiefs gave up 98 yards, which is still decent, to a Houston team that didn’t have Arian Foster.  The 4.6 yards per carry by the Texans seems like a bit much for Kansas City to give up, the Chiefs certainly don’t want to allow Denver to get those kinds of yards.

Manning is clearly not throwing the football as well as he used to, Kansas City will know that just by seeing the game film from Baltimore. Gary Kubiak wants to be a coach that powers the football and keeps control of the clock, but it looks like an uphill battle for Denver this week.

As poorly as they played last week, but still won, Denver has a lot to fix. Kansas City wins this one on a short week.
